Little Forest Farm

 

Located in Ancram, NY, Little Forest Farm is an eight-acre, woods-based farm that specializes in mushrooms (grown both on logs and indoors) and their culinary friends, like garlic, shallots, and herbs. We’ve been in operation since 2021 and will be adding perennial crops, such as hazelnuts and persimmons, in the years to come.

Little Forest Farm is run by Frank and Julie who have a combined thirteen years of farming experience. Our mission is to grow food in a way that promotes the health of the soil and the woods where we live. We are committed to farming on a hand-scale without the use of any synthetic herbicides, pesticides, or fertilizers. We grow our outdoor mushrooms on logs that have been selected based on timber stand improvement principles. Our indoor mushrooms are grown in a three-season grow room without supplemental heating. We use a mix of mulches, cover crops, and compost to grow fruits and vegetables with minimal tillage or machinery.

We are grateful for all the support of customers and other growers in the area. We want to offer a special thank you to our friends at Full Circus Farm who have helped us significantly in our first years and who have a fantastic organic fruit tree nursery.
